My 8,500 Gallon Koi Pond

For years I wanted to build an L shaped pond and I researched how much work was involved and then quickly started drawing up my plans.

It's interesting how much you can accomplish when you Plan your Work and Work your Plan.

First I removed the shed that was in the area where I wanted my Pond and then I framed out the area where I wanted the Pond to go.

Then a friend of mine dug down 4 feet with a bobcat and I removed all the tree roots and rocks as best as I could.
Once I got the area level, I started on the 1st row of the concrete blocks, the 1st row was the most important; once I got that level, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th row went relevantly quickly.  After the Concrete Blocks were in the correct spots I filled the inside of each block with quick dry cement & secured the foundation in place.

The next step was to get the liner in place, with the help of 5-6 friends we positioned the 30x30 foot liner over the pond and slowly filling it with hose water.  Once more and more water came in it would pull the liner in the right places & then I let it settle for 48 hours before putting the top Cap on & trimming the access liner.

Once the liner was in place & the pond was filled with water, I built the waterfall for the back corner.
I built the waterfall out of 2 stair steps and 2x6 & access liner.

After the waterfall was built I had to jump in the pond for the 1st time and setup the 2 Pumps that would circulate water into the filtration units & return via the waterfall.  (Put your pump on a milk crate so if the pond ever leaks or drains you will still have 1 foot of water for your fish.)

What I have learned is I will never be DONE with my pond, I am constantly making additions to it.
If anyone has any questions relating to building your own Pond please let me know and I will help you wherever I can.

Thanks for reading,
Shane

Your pond needs a liner to be cared. Once the liner was in place & the pond was filled with water everything will be ok for a longer time. Get Pondpro2000 immediately to get ten years relaxation. I built the water fall for the back corner.
